In HR it all boils down to having the best players. Really, we focus a lot of energy on Performance Management in the form of performance appraisals, performance improvement plans and such. The reason is that in order to beat our competitors in the business marketplace we need to have the best players and be investing in our A+ players through employee training. Sure sometimes we don’t have a good player and have to manage those situations too. I challenge you as a manager or business owner to spend more time on developing your top performers into even better performers because as the great GE legend Jack Welch said, “The Team with the Best Players Wins.” I believe this wholeheartedly!
Recruit the best players, develop the best players and you will retain the best players.
