An Impressive Management Action Plan
At the finale of the Manager Training Series last week I had asked each participant to develop their Management Action Plan (MAP). This was homework that had been assigned between sessions and without fail, participants showed up sharing their key takeaways. But when I ask for volunteers, 'Who wants to go first?', there is often a lull. Per usual there was a lull last week and then Ally volunteered to share her plan with the cohort.
Ally casually pulls up on the screen this impressive visual art depicting her Management Action Plan. To be fair, I prompt participants with a fill-in-the-blank framework that helps them form their thoughts and ideas. Typically the plans are shared verbally and it's assumed that they are typed up in a Google Doc or Notes App and participants read from their screen. You can imagine the glee I felt as a leader seeing Ally's action plan, it's visually impressive! Every participant after that said, well mine is just a...but as a group we felt collectively inspired by this graphic.
If it were me, I'd hang this promptly in my office as a reminder of all of the ways I'm learning to show up as a great manager for my team. Learning new skills is important but putting them into action and using them in the next week, month, or year, that's where the transformation happens.
Ally, great work on your Management Action Plan and inspiring us to dream a little bigger!
